14 Weeks

As of yesterday, we are 14 weeks. I may kick myself for saying this, but I think I'm starting to feel better. Yay! As of right now, I havn't taken any Zofran since the 2 I took Sunday! According to my emails, the baby is about the size of a lemon (or my fist). It's beginning to have a neck, beginning to grow hair, and all of it's organs are working properly. It has also started to pee...which goes out into the amniotic fluid...nasty to think about! Hopefully he/she won't remember that at one time they drank their own pee (thank goodness I don't...blech). I had to go last week and buy some new clothes. I really only needed the pants at this point, but got some shirts too. They really are so much more comfortable...I can see why some women wear their maternity pants forever (though, rest assured, I will not). It looks like much more, but as of today, I've only gained 2 pounds. Again I say...It looks like more. Brandon took my picture again today, and for comparrison sake, I took his too. :) And, YES, I got permission to put this one on...I didn't think he would let me! Ha!

Even though I got his permission to put this here, he may still have something to say about it! :) No, he hasn't actually gained any weight.

Pumpkin Family

I decided I wanted to have a pumpkin family this year (though, at this point, the baby is more the size of a jumbo shrimp than a pumpkin). Typically, we carve the only one's we buy. Much to the dismay of our neighbor's youngest daughter, these will stay just like this until after Thanksgiving. She thinks that ALL pumpkins MUST be carved. :) We did carve our traditional "one each" today and you can see those below. B's is the Tech one (of course) and mine is the ghost that says "Boo!" They do not live in the laundry room, but it was 5pm and too bright outside for a picture. They live outside, closer to the front door.

These flowers are just bonus. We planted these last year. At the time they were planted, there were approximately 4 blooms on each one, now...they've overtaken the garden. I can only assume they grew so big, so fast because of the Mir*acle Gr*ow B put on the roses all summer. Oh well. At least you can easily see them from the street now!

12 Week Appointment

We went back to the doctor this past Friday. It was relatively uneventful, except the part where they put me in a "broken dress" that opened in the front. Brandon got quite a kick out of it. Picture it: I have on the lovely, broken gown (open in the front of course), my black socks, and nothing else (too much info, I know...stick with it). Out of no where, B starts laughing. Since the gown only closed with a tie at the neck, B said it was more like a cape, and all he could picture was a "crazy pregnant lady running down the street wearing nothing but a cape and black socks!" Yes, he is funny...I am glad I have him with me when the doctor takes FOREVER to get to the room. Needless to say, when she finally did come in, B had painted such a vivid picture, it was ALL.I.COULD.THINK.ABOUT!!! More than once, I smiled while the doctor was talking, and it wasn't necessarily appropriate to do so! Oh well...she will learn...Brandon should come with his own caution label! :) Anyways, back to the appointment. They did more bloodwork (and will do more at the next 2 appointments as well), a sonogram, and lots of poking around on my belly and bladder. The heartrate was between 150-160, and everything looked good! I can now get a flu shot (now that all of my patient's have had the flu, this is perfect timing...ha), and at 16 weeks I can stop taking the medicine to keep the baby in. We go back for more bloodwork November 13th (16 weeks), then we'll go back early-mid December for the "big" appointment...the anatomy scan. Yes, we will be finding out if it's a boy or girl...there's NO WAY I could ever just be suprised. No Way. I'm too much of a planner! We'll keep you posted!

12 Weeks

Today marks 12 weeks. 12 weeks of nausea, 12 weeks of Zofran (for nausea), 12 weeks of headaches (actual physical pains in my head), 12 weeks of endless little "pains," and 12 weeks of complete exhaustion. BUT, It also marks 12 weeks of knowing there's a baby in there and a huge milestone that it has a better chance of staying put. 12 weeks of worrying, praying, excitement, and loving. A friend frequently reminds me that feeling bad is a good thing because as long as you feel bad, you know the baby is in there and growing. I suppose she has a point! :)

According to my babycenter emails (and "what to expect when your're expecting") here's the rundown...the baby is weighing in at 1/2 an ounce, only 7ish pounds to go! It's approximately 2 1/2 inches long, and about the size of a large, fresh plum. The digestive system is beginning to practice movements (so he/she can eat and poop someday); the bone marrow is making white blood cells (so he/she can fight off the germs and infections I bring home and give to Brandon, but that I seem to always avoid); and the pituitary gland has started producing hormones (so he/she will be able to make babies of his/her own someday). I'm not so sure I want to think about the whole hormone thing just yet! :) Here is the picture Brandon took a few minutes ago. It's time to buy some new pants.

Yes, my pants are unbuttoned. No, it isn't just for comfort...they no longer fit. Oh, well.

I almost forgot...I go back to the doctor tomorow. I'm not sure if she'll do a sonogram or not, we hope so. I'll update when I can.

Our State Fair...

...is a great state fair! Don't miss it, don't even be late! (Name that movie!)

We had a great time at the fair! Definately the coldest fair we've ever experienced. It was 53 when we arrived and when we left 6 hours later. You would think that would keep some people away...wrong! By about 7 o'clock, it was packed and we were glad to be on our way out. We took quite a few pictures, but none of the two of us together...I don't know why. Here are the highlights (mostly for the benefit of my mom and grandmother). If you would like to just skip through, there's a "Brandon moment" at the end. Enjoy!

Exactly how I'm going to look after the baby is born...ha...right.

He may just kill me for posting this! :)

We did NOT eat any of these things. I'm certain the fried butter is swallowed directly into the carotid artery.

The world's tastiest french fries. Each bite is the "crunchy fry."

This guy was carving these pumpkins with a buck knife.

Cloggers from Corsicana. We needed a walking break. This poor young girl in front was fifteen, in with women from 50-80. She looked mortified the whole time! But, she was the best one. :)

Brandon thought this little girl was precious...she tried to imitate every move they made on stage! It was really cute!

The world's BIGGEST pig. Seriously, huge. Though I did not see where he had actually won the title of world's largest pig, he has to be...he's HUGE!

"Peter the Great." Name says it all. He too was HUGE...and grouchy.

The butter carving this year was a scene from a saloon. Every year I think that someone has too much time on their hands. This year is no different, even though it is cool.

One funny story. We were walking past one of the "big" rides...you know, the kind that go round-and-round, and upside down...you get the picture. I said that I hoped someday at least one of our kids would like to ride stuff like that with me (B won't, they make him sick). Brandon immediately came back with, no way! I'm going to scare 'em by telling 'em "you see those empty seats? there were people in them when the ride started!" That is something my dad would have said!

Next year, we will likely not be able to go into all of the buildings, or lap the place several times just taking it all in. We will have the needs of someone else to consider, and that's ok. It will still be fun. It is, afterall, the fair!

11 Weeks

As of today, we are 11 weeks! According to my babycenter emails, the baby is 1 1/2 inches long and the size of a fig (which apparantly is larger than a kumquat, though other than a fruit, I still don't know what that is). The baby is almost completely developed, and will just need to get significantly larger. This week the fingers will have the ability to open and close, the ears will move closer to their final position (hopefully, that will be somewhere above the back of the jaw and below the top of the head), and it should grow around a 1/2 an inch. No wonder I'm so tired ALL.THE.TIME! Growing a baby is hard work! :)

We're going to the State Fair tomorrow, just the two of us, one last time! I'll post about that sometime this weekend!

(If anyone knows why this thing isn't giving me the option to spell check, I'd love to hear it! Please!)
